Receive free Early MTSS coaching or be an Early MTSS coach!

Is your early childhood education program interested in receiving free, dedicated coaching on improving your program’s systems and classroom practices related to instruction, social-emotional development, and inclusion?

Are you an experienced systems- or practice-based coach who is interested in providing additional programs with coaching support?

Vermont’s Agency of Education (AOE), Child Development Division (CDD), and Department of Mental Health (DMH) are happy to announce a new Early Multi-tiered System of Supports (Early MTSS) professional development opportunity that will begin in January 2024.  This project is part of Vermont’s Preschool Development Grant Birth to Five (PDGB-5) and will provide participating programs with coaching supports and professional development trainings aimed at ensuring positive outcomes for those programs and the children and families they serve.

Interested programs can apply online to be an Early MTSS implementation site. All regulated child care programs are eligible to apply, regardless of the ages of children that they serve. As an implementation site, your staff receive free training and free on-site coaching for 1-2 years, with the possibility of a third year if the PDG is extended.  You also have the option of working with your current coach, if that coach is also interested in participating in this program. For more information, please check out this link for Early MTSS Implementation Site Supplemental Information.

Interested coaches can apply online to serve in a systems- or practice-based coaching role, or in a hybrid systems/practice-based role, where your work is based on the needs of your partner program(s). For more information about becoming an Early MTSS coach, please check out this link for Early MTSS Coaching Supplemental Information.

Training and coaching will focus on promoting:

  • positive social, emotional, and mental health outcomes of young children birth to five,
  • universal practices including nurturing and responsive relationships in high quality environments,
  • targeted social, emotional and mental health supports,
  • equitable access and inclusion for every child,
  • effective family engagement,
  • use of data for decision-making, and
  • positively addressing challenging behaviors in early childhood environments, which in turn reduces the use of exclusionary discipline.

If you are a program that currently works with a coach and would like to continue to work with that coach within this project, please forward this email on to them as well, and encourage them to apply.

All program and coaching applications will be due Sunday, December 31, 2023.

Please forward this email on to anyone you think might be interested in this opportunity.  You may also receive this invite from several agencies as this is a cross agency partnership (AOE, CDD, DMH), and there is some overlap in the people who we serve and partner with.

If you have any questions about this project, please reach out to Amy Murphy, AOE Early Education Inclusion Coordinator, at amy.murphy@vermont.gov.
