Delay in Fingerprint Results

Category
March 24, 2023

Dear Child Care Providers,

We are reaching out to you in response to what we're hearing from the field about the delay in employees receiving their fingerprint results. The Child Development Division (CDD) is aware of the delay, and we are in regular communication with the Vermont Criminal Information Center (VCIC) regarding their efforts to address processing fingerprints as timely as possible and appreciate everything they are doing.

We recognize the staffing challenges you may experience while an employee waits for their fingerprint results and highlight that while these employees cannot be left alone with children, they can be counted in ratio. While this does not solve the staffing challenges you may experience during this wait, we hope this is a helpful reminder. We also want you to know that our Child Care Business Technicians are processing all fingerprint results on the day they were received. They have prioritized this task so that you have the information quickly, and we appreciate their work.

There are times when fingerprint results are rejected. The two most common reasons are:

  • The Fingerprint Authorization Certificate (FAC) is not signed; or
  • The fingerprints are of poor quality, and the individual needs to be reprinted.

There is a blank electronic version of the FAC on our website if you'd prefer to type your information, print, and sign the document. Using the blank FAC still requires sending in a Record Check Authorization Form for the individual.

CDD will continue to provide any information to you on this topic as it becomes available to us.

As always ~ thank you for the important work you do every day!

Beth Maurer, Director of Child Care Licensing
