Special Energy Assistance Benefit for Fuel Households

10 June 2022

ESD is providing a one-time cash benefit to help Fuel Assistance households offset the costs associated with heating their homes. If eligible, they'll get a check for either $400 or $120.

Eligibility for a $400 check:

Households must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. They received a Seasonal Fuel Assistance benefit for wood, pellets, kerosene, oil, natural gas, propane, coal, or electricity.
  2. Their benefit was issued between September 16, 2021, and  February 28, 2022.
  3. The household was an active fuel household as of  February 28, 2022. This means they applied for and remained eligible through February 28, 2022. A household that loses eligibility for fuel assistance before February 28, 2022, will not be eligible for the special energy assistance benefit.
  4. This also includes households that closed for 12/31/21, but reopened for 1/1/22 so there was no break in fuel eligibility.
