Interstate CCDF Child Care Background Check

This page describes the process for states, other than Vermont, to obtain record checks for child care workers in their own state. Individuals looking to complete a record check must contact their employer or other organization to find out that process.

Interstate Criminal Background Check

The Vermont Criminal Conviction Record Internet Service (VCCRIS) allows users to purchase criminal conviction records from the Vermont Crime Information Center. A criminal conviction record is a record of conviction in a Vermont district court. Contact information:

Instructions: Each state has one criminal history repository who is responsible for processing criminal history registry checks.  These queries must be initiated by fingerprints submitted to the state criminal history repository requesting the information, who will then query federal and state criminal history repositories (including Vermont).

Sex Offender Registry Check

Local law enforcement agencies and the Vermont Crime Information Center are authorized to release relevant registry information to the public when the requestor can articulate a specific concern about their safety or the safety of another. State statute requires that the requestor provide the name of a subject as the basis for the query. Contact information:

Child Abuse and Neglect Registry Check

Instructions:  The subject of the interstate child abuse and neglect registry check completes the form(s) provided on Vermont Department for Children and Families’ website.  Once the form(s) are received by the Vermont Department for Children and Families’ Family Services Division, Staff will process the request and send the notification in writing.  When the subject of the check has been found to be on the registry, the date and nature of the finding will be provided.
