Director of Child Care Licensing & Financial Assistance

Responsibilities include management, regulation and policy development and coordinating work at a professional level involving child care regulation and licensing, administration of the Child Care and Development Fund and of child care financial assistance of all types in Vermont. The Director will supervise twenty four – twenty five professional, technical and clerical employees and report directly to the Deputy Commissioner of the Child Development Division. Responsibilities include budget management, personnel management and strategic planning and implementation as part of the Division’s Management Team.

We’re looking for a skilled and knowledgeable leader to join a team of professionals enthusiastically committed to the well-being of children and the evolution of an innovative and effective system of developmentally beneficial child care and child development services.

A successful candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, early childhood development/education or other human service field  and at least  five years experience at a professional level in human services or early childhood programs such as  licensed or registered community based child care programs, Head Start (center based) programs, parent/child centers or other facilities, whose major focus is developmentally beneficial  early care and education services, including at least two years in a managerial or supervisory role. Relevant graduate level coursework in public administration, social work or the broad field of human services may be substituted for up to two years of the general experience on a semester for six months basis.
