Child sexual abuse happens to children of all ages—from infants to teens. And it happens more often than most people think.

Research tells us that:

• 1 out of 4 girls and 1 out of 6 to 8 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthdays.

In 2009, there were 346 substantiated reports of child sexual abuse in Vermont¹. However, research tells us that most children do not tell that they have been abused. This means the actual number is likely much higher.
