Oliver

Oliver is waiting in foster care for a family to adopt him.

Oliver is 16 years old. Here’s what he would like you to know about him.

My favorite things:
Video games, pizza, applesauce, and fruit.

Things I don't like:
Celery and broccoli.

Activities I enjoy:
I’m a couch potato sort of kid but I like the idea of being part of a sports team. I think I would like to play hockey, soccer, or baseball. I do like to go swimming.

What I want families to know about me:
I am really good with younger children; I like to help out; I miss my brothers and sister.

What we want you to know about Oliver:
He is an affectionate, caring young man who has experienced a great deal of loss, abuse, and neglect. He is on an Individualized Education Plan (or IEP) at school because of learning disabilities and behavioral issues. School is not easy for him, and he resists completing his homework. When Oliver becomes angry, he’s been known to use bad language and can be difficult to defuse.

What we are seeking in a family for Oliver:
Parents who understand grief and loss issues; are familiar with the effects of neglect and abuse on children; are comfortable parenting a child with extensive learning disabilities; are willing to participate in any recommended trainings and therapy sessions; are patient and loving even when his anger is a challenge; are not afraid to seek outside help if and when they need it; can work cooperatively with his school, therapists, and others; can support contact with his birth siblings; and can provide him with the consistency, routine, and structure he needs.
