DCF Response to Herring Plea Deal
The Department for Children and Families was recently informed that Jodi Herring pled guilty to a charge of 1st degree murder for the murder of DCF social worker Lara Sobel, and 2nd degree murder for the murders of her three family members.
“This is a somber day for Department for Children and Families’ staff – for all our staff, social workers in particular” said DCF Commissioner Ken Schatz. “We are grateful that Ms. Herring is being held accountable for her actions and hope that the case will conclude soon so Lara Sobel’s family and friends, our staff, and the Herring family can have closure and begin to heal.”
Our social workers and staff are our most important resources in fulfilling our mission of strengthening families and keeping children safe. We are grateful to our staff, who compassionately support Vermont’s children and families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
The Vermont Department for Children and Families delivers a wide array of programs and services to Vermonters in areas such as child care, child development, child protection, child support, disability determination, and economic benefits to help meet basic needs.
