Update: Tragic Montpelier Pool Incident

06 July 2017

The Vermont Department for Children and Families (DCF) has been working closely with the Vermont State Police (VSP) in the investigation of a tragic incident involving a child in the family pool in East Montpelier.  Sadly, yesterday evening the child passed away.

“Each incident of a child fatality is a tragedy. Everyone in our Department feels the loss of a child and our hearts go out to the family” said DCF Commissioner Ken Schatz. “Each incident of a child fatality is unique, and is thoroughly reviewed.”

In any incident of serious child injury or fatality, the State Police and DCF work together on joint investigations that assess for the possibility of child abuse or neglect. At this time, the Department for Children and Families is not able to disclose any further information pending the outcome of the investigations.
