
The Lifeline Telephone Service Credit offers eligible Vermonters a discount of at least $9.25 off their monthly phone bills. Note: not all phone companies participate.
Who is Eligible?
You are eligible if you live in Vermont, have phone service, and:

Will be 65 or older by June 15, 2013 and your household income is less than $26,478; or
-
Are under 65 and your household income is less than $22,695.
How do I Apply?

Complete the Application for Lifeline Telephone Service Credit.

Submit your completed application to the Vermont Department of Taxes on or before June 15th of each year. You must apply every year.

Mail your application to the address listed on the form.

Persons who receive public benefits (e.g., Reach Up, 3SquaresVT, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, Federal Public Housing Assistance (Section 8), National School Lunch Program’s free lunch program, and Fuel Assistance) may apply year-round.
Do all Telephone Companies Participate in the Lifeline Telephone Service Credit?
No. Only some companies offer the Lifeline discount. You may call a provider to ask or contact the Department of Public Service at 1-800-622-4496 to request a complete, current list of providers who participate in Lifeline.
When does the Lifeline Telephone Service Credit Begin?
If this is your first time applying for Lifeline, it may take up to three (3) months for the credit to appear on your phone bill.
