If you apply for Medicaid on the basis of disability, the Economic Services Division (ESD) will forward your application to us so we can determine whether you meet the medical requirements. Once this determination is made, we return your application to ESD for further processing.

If you receive SSI, you will also receive Medicaid; however, there are several reasons to apply for Medicaid directly with Economic Services if you have a disability. These include:

• You have uncovered medical expenses from before you applied for SSI.
• Your income and financial resources are above the SSI limits.
• You are working.
• Your child has a disability that severely restricts age-appropriate activities, requires special services to care for him/her in the home, AND the family income and resources are above the SSI limits. (This is the Katie Beckett Medicaid Waiver Program.)
