About UsThe Vermont Office of Disability Determination Services (DDS) determines the eligibility of Vermonters who apply for disability benefits under Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). We also determine the medical eligibility of Vermonters who apply for Medicaid based on having a disability. Our mission is to provide applicants with accurate decisions as quickly as possible — as governed by Social Security federal statutes, regulations, and policy — with full and fair consideration of each applicant's situation and with respect and concern for the individual's well-being and legal rights. Through partnerships with the health care community and social agencies of Vermont, we strive to quickly and cost-effectively obtain the detailed medical and functional information that is legally required to document each disability claim. Highly trained, impartial adjudicators, hearing officers, and medical and psychological consultants decide medical eligibility in accordance with Social Security law. |
