Child Abuse Prevention Treatment Act (CAPTA):
The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act is a federal legislation that has several requirements some of which are in line with Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).  Both of these laws require that states establish provisions and procedures for an automatic referral to occur for children under the age of 3 who are involved in a substantiated case of child abuse or neglect; or has been identified as affected by illegal substance abuse, or withdrawal symptoms resulting from prenatal drug exposure.  This course walks you through CAPTA requirements and procedures for Family Services and CIS/Early Intervention.

Early Child Transition From CIS Early Intervention (professional version):

This course is intended to provide guidance to professionals around what to do when a child turns three and transitions from Early Intervention to Essential Early Education or other settings.  This course will take approximately 25 minutes to complete.  The foundation of this course is rooted in evidence based research and the Part C and B rules and regulations around the transition process which are written in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

EI Child Outcomes Training Module Early Childhood Outcomes Video:  Child Outcomes “Step by Step”

This video describes and illustrates the three child outcomes adopted by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and reported on by all state early intervention (Part C) and preschool special education (Part B/619) programs as part of their Annual Performance Report (APR).  This video offers a consistent way to describe the outcome areas across programs and states. It can be used to provide an overview to the three outcomes for professional development and training, orienting families, and introducing the outcomes to other constituents such as policymakers or funders. The video explains functioning necessary for each child to be an active and successful participant at home, in the community, and in other places like a child care program or preschool.
